Exhibition text:

A solo exhibition of recent work by London-based artist George Morgan.

Working predominantly in oil and other media on traditional gesso panel and found substrates, as well as monotype, George’s work is largely nonrepresentational and draws from personal experience, touching on themes including trauma, isolation, love, loss, desire for emotional attunement verses need for autonomy.

Looking consciously inside ourselves can give rise to dark feelings and necessitate uncomfortable processes. These, with the positive potentiality of such a turning inward, teeter on a fragile precipice. Maybe Grief is Yellow explores the friction, the uncertainty and the hope within that liminal space.

“Can’t you see where memories are kept bright? Tripping on the water like a laughing girl”.

John Carder Bush, from Jig of Life.
